If you've ever visited our distillery and savoured a refreshing G&T with grapefruit tonic, you know we're fans of East Imperial's exceptional product range. But did you know they also have a range of other great products, including a delightful Yuzu Lemonade? We had the pleasure of experimenting with some, and after days of tinkering, our Production Queen Mica hit upon the brilliant idea of creating Yuzu Mead. Not to be mistaken for our previous Yuzucello Release, Mead is often referred to as "honey wine". It's one of the oldest fermented beverages in the world, commonly called "Nectar of the Gods". This spirit has a rich and storied history and has been enjoyed by people around the world for centuries. Our Yuzu Mead is a unique and refreshing take on this classic drink. Cracking open over 1,000 cans of Yuzu Lemonade, Mica blended it with honey to create a sweet base for fermentation. Once distilled, this mead wine produced a one-of-a-kind, funky clear spirit. To balance the flavours with sour and sweet notes, we then blended the spirit with Yuzu Juice and Honey Water, reducing it to 40% ABV. As a result, we have crafted a spirit that embodies the essence of mead-making while incorporating the bold and zesty flavours of Yuzu. This deliciously complex drink is perfect for enjoying as a mixer with a premium tonic & citrus garnish or in our complex milk punch cocktail. This Granddad Jack’s limited release liqueur is our twist on the traditional Italian Limoncello. It was made with Yuzu, a unique citrus fruit, originally from China but now popular in Japanese cuisine. The Yuzu has a beautiful lemony, mandarin, bergamot flavour and we were lucky to source ours locally, in the heart of the Tweed Valley, from Buck’s Farm (operated for over 40 years by Gerard ‘Buck’ Buchanan, a passionate farmer and an all-round good bloke who was the first commercial grower in Australia). We hand-picked a couple hundred Yuzus and back at the distillery got peeling! The fresh peels sat for several days infusing our Penny Vodka, then the infused spirit was sweetened with a hint of sugar and just the right amount of fresh Yuzu juice to bring out a brilliant tang. The resulting liqueur has the delicious combination of the tangy and sweet Yuzu goodness, making it perfect for a summer cocktail or as a digestif after a night of good food and wine. When enjoying Yuzucello straight, serve chilled (but not over ice) to really enjoy the flavours. Note: The liqueur is super dense in tasty citrus oils from the peel which can sometimes separate into little flavour specs that float in the spirit. To ensure the flavours are well melded, give the bottle a good shake before pouring. 🍍 Zac's Tropical Heat Gin #2🌶 At Granddad Jack's, to celebrate our staff on their one year anniversary they're given the opportunity to create their very own spirit. From choosing their own botanicals, putting together the label to distilling the product, the release is entirely their own.  Zac's Tropical Heat Gin is a supercharged, fun gin (not unlike Zac!)... hot, unconventional, full of surprises and always adding a little spice to your life. Dave's had his budgies in a knot ever since it was first released in 2020. We think it's because he can't take the heat... but it could be the fact that Zac's proclaimed the title of 'Fastest-Selling Staff Release Ever" and won't shut up about it. However, against Dave's good judgment, we've decided to trust the people (and Zac), so back by very popular demand, & in honour of Zac's third year, we release batch #2 of Zac's Tropical Heat Gin; the fastest-selling staff release...Batch #2 will be available from 28th January 2022 Created with a big dose of Juniper, Chilli and Pineapple. "This gin pays homage to my travels around Central America and Canada, as the botanicals used to create this refreshing Gin emulate my experiences.
