This Granddad Jack’s limited release liqueur is our twist on the traditional Italian Limoncello. It was made with Yuzu, a unique citrus fruit, originally from China but now popular in Japanese cuisine. The Yuzu has a beautiful lemony, mandarin, bergamot flavour and we were lucky to source ours locally, in the heart of the Tweed Valley, from Buck’s Farm (operated for over 40 years by Gerard ‘Buck’ Buchanan, a passionate farmer and an all-round good bloke who was the first commercial grower in Australia).
We hand-picked a couple hundred Yuzus and back at the distillery got peeling! The fresh peels sat for several days infusing our Penny Vodka, then the infused spirit was sweetened with a hint of sugar and just the right amount of fresh Yuzu juice to bring out a brilliant tang.
The resulting liqueur has the delicious combination of the tangy and sweet Yuzu goodness, making it perfect for a summer cocktail or as a digestif after a night of good food and wine. When enjoying Yuzucello straight, serve chilled (but not over ice) to really enjoy the flavours.
Note: The liqueur is super dense in tasty citrus oils from the peel which can sometimes separate into little flavour specs that float in the spirit. To ensure
the flavours are well melded, give the bottle a good shake before pouring.
